M2M on GSM-3G-LTE

October 13 09:40-12:10

Wireless communication is becoming ubiquitous in the embedded environment. From the wide area high speed infrastructure to near field, low speed connections.
This two day track will cover the whole spectrum. Infrastructure, standardization and wireless devices. We will look at applications today and get views of the technology evolution and areas that will be made possible in the near future.

Presentations will be made by:

Osborn Hogevik
Director, Portfolio Strategy, Ericsson

"Cellular M2M - we have only seen the beginning"

Ericsson believes that there will be 50 billion connected devices by 2020 – 2025. Addition of connectivity to a device will radically increase its user value. A substantial part of the 50 billion devices will be connected over cellular systems, benefiting from the cost efficiency and coverage of these systems. Some deployments are already done, many more will come. Ongoing standardization and development work will ensure that cellular systems can evolve functionality and characteristics in a way suitable for future M2M applications.
Biography:

Osborn Hogevik has been with Ericsson for 29 years and has been working within R&D, product management and marketing, in Sweden as well as abroad. He has worked with cellular systems most of the time. Currently he is with the Group Function “Technology & Portfolio Management” where he is working with the Ericsson product portfolio strategy for M2M.

Vikas Sahota Telit

” Migration towards UMTS”

This session looks at the 2G to 3G technology migration of network operators and of M2M applications. The trend and fit of various applications to these technologies are discussed with some of the key considerations that M2M developers make to prepare for this migration in a technically and commercially viable way. This presentation draws on Telit’s experience as a global, modular technology provider engaged with a diverse customer base and thus provides a unique snap-shot of the status and challenges involved in keeping ahead of this “wave of change”.

Vikas Sahota
Following studies in Electronic Engineering (BEng, PgDip) Vikas began a career in applications support in the M2M communications sector. Vikas has worked for and represented several of the leading names in wireless and communications technologies at both chip and module level since that time and now provides the prime technical customer interface across a wide customer base of 2G and 3G focussed clients.
